What we accept and how the process works
GDF Technologies handles the batteries that come out of UPS systems: VRLA and AGM blocks from rack mount units, gel cells, full three phase strings, and complete battery cabinets. The most common path is replacement plus recycling in one visit: the technician installs the new cells, load tests the system, and the old set leaves the site the same day. For decommissioning projects and larger volumes, we coordinate pickup with proper packaging for transport.
Why UPS batteries cannot go in the bin
A lead acid battery is one of the most recycled products in North America: the lead, plastic case and electrolyte are all recovered in the regulated stream, and recovery rates run near the high nineties in percent. The same regulation means sealed batteries are classified as hazardous for transport and cannot be disposed of as regular waste in any Canadian province. Fines aside, a pallet of old cells in a storage room is a fire and leak risk that building insurers increasingly flag during inspections.
Documentation for your records
On request we provide documentation of the quantity removed and confirmation the batteries entered the recycling stream, which satisfies most environmental management and audit requirements. If you are replacing batteries anyway, ask about battery replacement service; recycling of the old set is part of the visit, not an extra project.
